Brilliant minds. Transformative insights.
We research how AI and emerging technologies are rewriting the rules of society and business — equipping leaders to shape what comes next.

About Us

The Institute for Calculated Futures has a small core and a large network of collaborators who come together in multidisciplinary teams to address complex real-world challenges. We believe that we are living in a time of such rapid technological change that the impact on business, society and individuals will be significant. We aim to research these effects so as to make technology as beneficial as possible to humanity. We focus on applied research. The members of the network are typically senior practitioners with 20+ experience in their field, used to thinking strategically and advising at C-level. We are organized in Labs, each with a thematic focus.

Our Mission

To advance the state of AI research and applications through interdisciplinary collaboration and a focus on creating technologies that benefit humanity, enhance productivity, and solve pressing global challenges.

Our Values

  • Scientific excellence and integrity
  • Responsible innovation and ethical AI development
  • Collaboration across disciplines and industries
  • Open sharing of knowledge and resources
  • Human-centered approach to technology development

Research Areas

Our research spans multiple aspects of emerging technologies. They are organized in six Labs, each with a thematic focus. Members of the cooperative can form new labs.

Future of Society Lab

Future of Society Lab

Our Future of Society Lab examines the broader societal implications of AI adoption. We study how AI transforms work, education, entertainment, communication and social structures. How it changes who we are. The lab produces forward-looking reports and recommendations for policymakers, educators, and business leaders.

Business Impact Lab

Business Impact Lab

AI and other emerging technologies have huge implications for companies in many sectors, who are faced with unprecedented changes in society. Many CEOs will be forced to fundamentally re-assess their business models in the age of AI, identifying threats and finding new opportunties. The Lab produces reports on specific sectors (Industry Forecasts) and custom studies and assessments (AI Impact Scans™).

Future of Truth Lab

Future of Trust Lab

With AI being able to generate realistic looking content in different forms, people wonder what to trust. The concept of truth is evolving. Trustworthiness will become an important aspect of data and information. Succesful adoption of AI depends on the trust employees and customers have in it. Business success depends on turst as well. We research how trust can be (re)established.

Applied AI Lab

AI Solutions Lab

Applying AI techniques to achieve the previously impossible: tackle wicked problems, revolutionalize decision making, deliver new insights and ideas.

AI-Human Boundary Lab

AI-Human Boundary Lab

Offers consultancy services to businesses and individuals on establishing healthy boundaries with AI systems, preserving autonomy while leveraging AI's benefits.

Rational Tech Lab

Rational Tech Lab

How can we use tech to make society better and humans happier? Creates systems specifically designed to enhance human empathy, moral judgment, and social connection rather than diminish these qualities.
